BBC chairman Michael Grade shocked the media industry today by taking the top job at rival ITV.

BBC chairman Michael Grade shocked the media industry today by taking the top job at rival ITV.

His appointment as executive chairman – confirmed by ITV in a statement to the London Stock Exchange – is a shot in the arm for the struggling commercial broadcaster which has been searching for a new chief executive since Charles Allen’s resignation in August following a dip in advertising revenues and audience figures.
