Shares in Bank of Ireland were down 20c to €16.30 this afternoon despite the unveiling of a new rate of 6% on new regular savings to its Special Bonus Saver Account.

Shares in Bank of Ireland were down 20c to €16.30 this afternoon despite the unveiling of a new rate of 6% on new regular savings to its Special Bonus Saver Account.

The other financial heavyweights enjoyed similar fortunes with AIB also down 20c to €21.45 and Anglo Irish Bank down 5c to 14.55.

Irish Life and Permanent remained unchanged at €19.80.

Overall, the ISEQ index of Irish shares was trading down 69.99 points to 8802.71 by 12.25pm.

Low-budget airline Ryanair slipped 10c to €9.62, while Aer Lingus remained unchanged at 2.68.

Donegal Creamer was in positive territory this afternoon, up 19c to €4.80.
