Slab Murphy facing €15m tax bill after ARA inquiry

Thomas "Slab" Murphy and his family are facing a tax bill of €15m after a joint inquiry by Irish and British investigators.

Earlier this week the Assests Recovery Agency froze properties in Manchester belonging to the family in a bid to stop them selling up to pay the bill.

It was claimed in court in London that the ten houses in Cheshire are the proceeds of money laundering, fuel smuggling and mortgage fraud.

The houses were identified in documents seized by the Criminals Assets Bureau during a raid on Murphy's home in Co Louth last March.
