ISEQ drops despite construction growth

The ISEQ dropped 13.19 to stand at 8691.71 by close today.

Allied Irish Bank was up 35c at €21.91, while Irish Life and Permanent gained 19c to €19.05.

Bank of Ireland was up 5c at €16.00 while Anglo Irish Bank dropped 19c to €14.50.

Figures released from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show the continued growth of employment in the construction sector as CRH made 25c to €27.23 while there was no change for Grafton at €11.65 by close.

A growth of 2.4% in the sector compared with the same period in 2005, the figures clearly demonstrate the importance of construction to the Irish economy.

A spokesperson for the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) stated: “These figures from the CSO demonstrate the continued growth of the construction sector in Ireland and the vibrancy of the Industry.”
