The FTSE 100 Index powered through the 6,200 barrier today to close at its highest level since February 2001.

The FTSE 100 Index powered through the 6,200 barrier today to close at its highest level since February 2001.

A strong start to trading in New York boosted European markets and the Footsie lifted 76.4 points - or 1.2% - to finish at 6224.5.
