Builders warned about dangerous winter months

Builders have been warned to be extra vigilant on building sites during the next two months.

Construction sites will be in darkness for an hour longer since the clocks went back, and this combined with the rush to complete projects before Christmas means extra danger for workers.

Twenty-three people died in accidents in the construction sector last year, and so far this year nine workers have been killed.

Denis Farrell of the Building and Allied Trade Union said November and December are the worst months for accidents on site.
