Consumer group calls for broadband overhaul
Broadband service in Ireland needs to be radically overhauled, the Consumer Association said today.
It has called on the Government to deregulate the market and put an end to the eircom monopoly on telephone, satellite and wireless connections.
The criticism comes in the wake of Minister for Communications Noel Dempsey's statement that broadband roll-out is a success, with 410,000 subscribers.
However, the Consumer Association's Michael Kilcoyne said that it was unacceptable that only 30% of households have broadband access.
