ISEQ makes modest gains
The ISEQ made a modest gain this afternoon of 25.12 points to 8023.08 as warnings from the International Monetary Fund urged the European Central Bank to move cautiously on interest rate hikes.
This came as European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet repeated that the bank remained on the alert about inflationary dangers in the euro zone.
Despite the warnings though, the financials reported overall gains before close today with AIB and the Bank of Ireland gaining by 5c and 22c to €19.95 and €14.87 respectively.
IL & P gained 5c this afternoon slowing somewhat on earlier increases to stand at €18.99 by late afternoon.
The only loser this afternoon was the Anglo Irish Bank which fell 8c to €12.42.
