Abbott announces further expansion plans in Clonmel

US pharmaceutical firm Abbott has announced plans for the further expansion of its manufacturing plant in Clonmel.

The announcement was made at the official opening of the company's new facility in the Co Tipperary town.

Five hundred jobs are due to be created at the new factory before the end of next year.

Abbott used the occasion of today's opening to unveil plans for a further expansion in Clonmel over the coming years.

The company, which employs 3,300 people in Ireland, also secured planning permission recently to expand its manufacturing plant in Galway.
