The information management company EMC, today announced that eircom, has selected EMC Smarts as its fault analysis and impact assessment solution.

EMC Smarts software solutions are being implemented to increase operational efficiency across eircom’s core network.

With EMC Smarts, eircom will be able to pinpoint root cause problems across their MPLS VPNs, IP and ATM domains automatically in real time, as well as understand what services may be affected.

EMC Smarts ATM/FR Manager solution will be used to analyse the availability of eircom’s Alcatel ATM network which supports DSL access services, which in turn support IP VPN connectivity.

The company also hopes to be able to improve customers overall experience by enabling operators to prioritise fault resolution based on their impact to customer service levels.

Geoff Shakespeare, the chief technology officer at EMC said: “We need to be able to respond quickly, particularly with the mission critical nature of the network services that eircom provides to the largest Government and corporate customers. ”

“After evaluating a range of fault management solutions, we concluded that EMC Smarts provided the most advanced automated intelligence necessary to quickly pinpoint and resolve IT availability issues,” said Shakespeare.

EMC established a presence in Ireland in 1988 with its first manufacturing facility outside of North America in Ovens, Cork. It then formed its Dublin based sales office in 1990. EMC now employs over 1,500 people in Ireland between both sites.

The Cork facility has become a multifunctional campus and the home of EMC's International Operations. In addition to the manufacturing facility, the site also includes the International Executive Briefing Centre, the Global Solutions Centre, Worldwide Customer Service Centre, VMware Support Services, Software Development and Shared Services functions. EMC Ireland today claims some of Ireland's most recognised organisations as its customers.
