NUJ votes in favour of national pay deal

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has voted to accept the new social partnership deal.

The union said today that its members had voted by 90% in favour of the Towards 2016 agreement, which includes pay rises totalling 10% over a 27-month period.

The Public Sector Executive Union also revealed earlier today that its members had voted “strongly” in favour of the accord.

The various trade unions are due to cast their votes on the deal at a special ICTU conference next month.

Individual membership ballots are still ongoing within several unions, many of which are divided about the merits of the document.

The support of SIPTU, the country's largest union, is seen as vital to the ratification of the agreement and the results of the SIPTU ballot are expected to be known next week.
