Vodafone today announced the appointment of Steve Pusey as chief technology officer with effect from September 1, 2006.

Steve Pusey will be responsible for all aspects of Vodafone's networks, IT capability and supply chain management. He will report to the chief executive of Europe and will join the company's executive committee.

Mr Pusey, 45, has been with Nortel since 1982, and was as president of the company’s European division from 2001 to 2005.

He will succeed Tim Miles, who will be returning to New Zealand with his family.

“This is a unique opportunity and I am relishing the challenge ahead,” said Mr Pusey.

“The strategic priority will be to continue leveraging Vodafone's scale benefits across all areas of technology, both to reduce capital and operating costs and ensure Vodafone differentiates its offering in the marketplace.”

Chief executive Arun Sarin said: “Tim Miles has made a major contribution to Vodafone and we wish him well in the future.

“I am delighted to welcome Steve Pusey to my executive team. He has a wealth of operational experience and a strong track record of delivery.”
