Walsh appointed Stokes Bio chairman

Dr Edward M. Walsh has today been appointed as chairman of Stokes Bio Limited, an advanced research spin-off from the Stokes Research Institute at University of Limerick.

Stokes Bio is currently developing the prototype for a new cancer diagnostic system, based on analysis of the human transcriptome. The first medical application of the new ‘micro-fluidic’ diagnostic system is likely to be in the area of childhood leukaemia.

“The appointment of Ed Walsh as our chairman is a significant boost for us and an endorsement of the potential for the research in which we are currently engaged,” said Prof. Mark Davies, director of Stokes Bio Ltd.

“We believe that the medical and scientific advances we are involved in will have a very significant impact in future years and we look forward to progressing this agenda with the support and insight of our chairman.”

Dr Walsh is chairman of a number of organisations including the Irish Council for Science Technology and Innovation that advises the Government on science policy.
