Savers should use windfall payments from their Special Savings Investment Accounts to pay off expensive debts and borrowings, the Financial Regulator said today.

The special savings scheme (SSIAs) has an estimated total worth of €15bn and the accounts of the first 40,000 savers will mature on June 1.
