Shares in food group Kerry tumbled more that 7.5% this afternoon, down €1.47 to €18.00, following comments from chief executive Hugh Friel at the group's AGM in Tralee, Co Kerry.

Shares in food group Kerry tumbled more that 7.5% this afternoon, down €1.47 to €18.00, following comments from chief executive Hugh Friel at the group's AGM in Tralee, Co Kerry.

Mr Friel told shareholders the weakening dollar and high raw materials prices could prevent it from reaching its earnings targets this year. He told the meeting that the group's business were performing ahead of last year so far.

The ISEQ index of Irish shares however finished up 2.38 to 7579.59 points by the end of day's trading.

The financial heavyweights enjoyed mixed fortunes today.

Anglo Irish Bank surged 27c to €12.46, while Irish Life and Permanent also posted gains, rising 14c to €18.84.

However AIB fell 18c to €18.05 while Bank of Ireland slipped 12c to €14.15.
