The possible takeover of eircom by an Australian investment firm is set to dominate the biennial conference of the Communications Workers Union in Cork today.

Babcock & Brown, the company's largest shareholder, has put in an offer for the telecommunications firm along with the eircom employee share ownership trust.

The CWU is concerned that the possible sale will affect pay and conditions for workers.

Other issues up for discussion at today's conference include the appointment of a new chief executive at An Post and the lack of progress at talks on a new social partnership agreement.
