Director of Consumer Affairs highlights dangers of con artists
The Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs is using April Fool's Day to highlight the real dangers posed by con artists.
The office is warning members of the public not to find their way onto what's known as the 'suckers list' by parting with personal details that could be used to drain personal funds before being sold.
Assistant director at the Office of Consumer Affairs Brendan Moylan is calling for people to be alert to the fact that there is no such thing as money for nothing.
“We have learned that there's basically a scam for absolutely everyone out there,” he said.
“We are trying to make sure that people just look at situations and to ask themselves did they ever even enter into that draw did they ever pay any money for that prize bond or that prize, and when they really think about it there's nothing for nothing out there.”
