Dairy Crest lifted by cheese demand
Dairy Crest hailed the popularity of Cathedral City today after reporting another strong performance from the key brand in its cheese portfolio.
The UK’s second largest dairy company – behind Lurpak butter maker Arla – said the cheddar increased its market share during a period when the group as a whole overcame cost pressures to keep its trading in line with expectations.
As well as a strong performance from Cathedral City, Dairy Crest said its foods division benefited from price rises secured last summer and a significant increase in own label cheese volumes with both Asda and Morrisons.
Dairy Crest said Clover and Utterly Butterly also enjoyed market share gains in the dairy spreads market, while butter Country Life benefited from a marketing campaign to report good volume growth.
