The present managing director of Siemens Ltd, Ireland has been elected president of the German-Irish Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

The present managing director of Siemens Ltd, Ireland has been elected president of the German-Irish Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Lorenz Zimmermann was given the nod at the AGM held in the Berkeley Court Hotel. Mr Zimmermann is also Chamber Spokesperson on Transport and Infrastructure.

Before his appointment as Managing Director of Siemens Limited., Ireland, Mr Zimmermann was President of the Integrated Services Division within Siemens Transportation Systems, based in Erlangen, Germany.

During this time, Mr Zimmermann was responsible for the delivery of major projects such as the Bangkok Sky train, the privatisation of the Melbourne public transport system and the formation of a public private partnership with the Leipzig Light Rail operator.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Zimmermann said: "I am delighted that I will have the opportunity to work with the German-Irish Chamber of Industry and Commerce to promote trade links between Ireland and Germany. Over the last decade, over 200 German companies have located in Ireland, employing over 14,000 people across a range of disciplines."
