Total of 270 C&D Petfoods workers to be made redundant

More than 270 workers at C&D Petfoods are to be made redundant.

The bulk of the remaining staff following a fire at the plant last month received the news in Longford this afternoon.

Sixty of those whose future remained uncertain are to be kept on as part of a new packaging section.

The company said that part-time and temporary staff would also receive severance payments as a gesture of appreciation for their role in building the business.
