C&D workers to be briefed on company’s short-term future
The owners of the C&D Foods factory in Co Longford are due to outline their plans for the immediate future in a meeting with workers this afternoon.
The pet-food plant in Edgeworthstown was destroyed in a major fire last month, prompting fears that all 500 employees could lose their jobs.
More than 170 returned to work in the soft-can section of the factory earlier this week, but the future of the remaining 330 jobs is still uncertain.
Those jobs depend primarily on C&D management outsourcing production to another plant so it can retain the contracts it has with leading Irish and British supermarkets.
