Boots merger given go ahead

The proposed merger of Boots and Alliance UniChem overcame a major hurdle today after regulators gave the deal provisional clearance.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) said it would not refer the £7bn (€10.2bn) tie-up to the Competition Commission after the companies agreed to dispose of stores in 100 communities where the two businesses are dominant.
