Engineering group welcomes campus development

STEPS to engineering has welcomed the announcement of a technology campus in Clondalkin as a very positive sign for the Irish technology sector.

Ms Margie McCarthy, STEPS to engineering Manager, said: “This development will boost Ireland’s reputation as a very attractive location for international industries.”

News of this campus along with recent announcements of another 600 jobs for Dublin by Google, the establishment of the European Headquarters of Xilinx Research Labs in Ireland and the launch of the Government transportation plan, Transport 21, indicate a strengthening job market in the engineering and technology sectors going forward.

Ms McCarthy said: “The development of this technology campus should give confidence to students considering engineering and technology courses when filling in their CAO application forms this month."

STEPS to engineering is an Engineers Ireland programme, supported by Discover Science and Engineering, the Department of Education and Science, FÁS and the engineering industry.

The programme aims to encourage primary and post-primary students to explore the world of science and engineering and raise awareness about engineering as a career choice.
