An Irish man has been appointed a vice president of the New York-based Moog Corporation, the worldwide aviation and electronics group.

An Irish man has been appointed a vice president of the New York-based Moog Corporation, the worldwide aviation and electronics group.

John Scannell joined Moog in 1990 as an engineering manager of Moog’s plant in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork.

In 1994, he moved to Germany to become operations manager of Moog GmbH.

Five years later, Mr Scannell took a leave of absence to pursue an MBA at Harvard. He returned to Moog in 1999 as the general manager of Moog Ireland and the general manager of the electric drives product line.

In 2003, he joined the aircraft group in East Aurora, New York in a manufacturing planning role, and in 2004 became a programme director.

Mr Scannell current position is director of contracts and pricing.

In addition to his MBA, he holds bachelors and masters degrees in electrical engineering from University College Cork.

He now lives in East Aurora with his wife, Eileen and two children. The company began production early in 1982 in an IDA factory on the Ringaskiddy industrial estate. A second building was added at the same site in 1990.

Moog now employs some 150 staff at the Cork plant where it designs and builds electronic control equipment for sale through sister companies.

Moog is a worldwide manufacturer and designer of high-performance control systems for military and commercial aircraft, satellites and space vehicles, launch vehicles, missiles, automated industrial machinery, and medical equipment.

Moog was founded in 1951 and headquarters are based in Buffalo, New York.

The New York high-tech company also announced that Indian-born Sasidhar Eranki had joined Mr Scannell on the board as a second vice president.
