Official appointed to get public’s view on LUAS extension

The extension of the Luas service to the Point Theatre in Dublin has moved a step closer this morning following the appointment of an official to get the public's view on the initiative.

Transport Minister Martin Cullen said he had appointed James Connolly as an independent inspector to oversee consultations with the public on the proposed expansion of the Red Line from Connolly Station to the Point.

The plan to extend the LUAS into the docklands is part of the Government's ambitious Transport 21 programme, which was launched in November.

The Rail Procurement Agency has estimated that the move would add two million passengers to the LUAS network every year.
