Broadcasters publish voluntary code on alcohol adverts

The body representing Ireland's commercial television and radio stations has launched a voluntary code of conduct on alcohol advertising.

The code is designed to limit the exposure of young people to alcohol advertising.

It calls on all members of the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland group to refrain from on-air discussions that glamorise or encourage the over-consumption of alcohol among young people.

It also asks them not to use alcohol advertising and sponsorship on programmes where more than one-third of the audience is under 18.
