FSA investigating meat companies
The Food Safety Authority has discovered sheets of illicit meat labels at a meat plant in Co Monaghan.
The find was uncovered as part of an investigation into repackaging and re-labelling at a company in the north.
The Food standards agency in the north is investigating Eurofreeze Ltd. in Lisnaskeen Co Fermanagh for its repackaging, re-labelling and distribution of meat and poultry.
Inspections have been carried out here at premises known to have received products from Eurofreeze, to validate the authenticity of health marks on meats.
This week at M&N meats in Corbrack in Ballybay, Co Monaghan they found sheets of self adhesive labels with illicit health marks.
Inspectors also searched the premises of D’Arcy Foods in Corbrack and removed records for further examination.
Other products known to have received products from Eurofreeze will be inspected to check the health marks are real.
If any product is found not to be marked properly it will be removed from the market. To date one consignment of beef is being inspected.
