British rail infrastructure company Network Rail today disclosed more trains were running on time after a “dramatic” reduction in track-related delays.

Announcing a 5% rise in operating profits to £269m (€392m) for the six months to September 30, Network Rail said there had been a 12% fall in the number of delays to trains in its financial year so far.

The not-for-dividend company, which took on responsibility for rail infrastructure in 2002, also said substantial improvements had been made on giving operators advance notice of engineering works and fixing the timetable at least 12 weeks ahead.

This meant tickets were available for sale much earlier.
