ISEQ makes a positive start

The ISEQ index of shares closed up 4.79 at 6811.39 to start the week on a positive note.

However, it was a torrid day for some companies, including some of the financials. Anglo Irish Bank was down 14c to €11.09, while Irish Life & Permanent was down 25c to €15.30.

Meanwhile, pharmaceutical giant Elan fell back from last week's gains, shedding 48c in today's trading to close at €8.52.

On a positive note, Paddy Power was up 58c to €10.59 today.

It was also a good day for AIB and Bank of Ireland which added 30c and 17c to close at €17.66 and €13.19 respectively.
