EU prepares for showdown over chemicals bill
European Union politicians are preparing for a showdown over a bill overhauling the EU’s chemicals policy, one of the most far-reaching and intensely lobbied pieces of legislation in recent years.
The assembly was expected to approve a pro-business version of the bill today, but more than a thousand amendments to the original version tabled mean the voting is likely to take several hours and yield one clear winner: the chemicals industry.
