Consumers body backs move to blacklist unsafe airlines

The Consumers Association has come out in support of moves by the European Union to set up a blacklist of unsafe airlines.

The European Parliament is due to vote today on rules that would require all travel agencies to inform passengers if they are flying with an airline on the list.

Speaking ahead of the vote, Consumers' Assocation spokesman Michael Kilcoyne said people were entitled to such information.

"If there are airlines who have a higher accident risk, then consumers should be aware of that when they're making their bookings," he said.
