Financials fall on ISEQ

The Dublin stock exchange got of to a sluggish start on a morning which saw all the financials recording losses.

The ISEQ was down 11.21 points to 6632.09 by 11am this morning.

AIB fell 17c to €16.93, Bank of Ireland and Irish Life and Permanent both fell 6c to €12.65 and €14.82 respectively. Anglo Irish Bank fell 2c to €11.25.

Takeover target Jurys also fell on today's ISEQ, slipping 15c to to €19.00.

Shares in Elan surged nearly 9% this morning after the company said that a new safety evaluation of its Tysabri drug on patients with Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis showed no new cases of a potentially fatal brain disorder.

They rose 58c to €11.20.
