Powergen owner E.ON boosted the amount of gas it generates from the UK today with a deal worth £470m (€693m) for UK producer Caledonia Oil and Gas.

Europe’s biggest listed utility, which recently announced its interest in buying generation and retail energy provider Scottish Power, said the deal offered the equivalent to the annual gas consumption of about nine million households.
