Fishing organisations have asked the Government to allow them to tie up their vessels in port for a few weeks.

The request has been made as a result of rising fuel costs.

Fishermen today said that they are struggling to survive and that costs have almost doubled over the last year.

They have called for a meeting with the Minister for the Marine.

The Irish South and West Fish Producers Organisation said many people do not realise how much of an impact fuel prices are having on the industry.
