Group seeks ban on Brazilian beef imports

The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association has called on the Government to ban imports of Brazilian beef until the South American country is free of foot-and-mouth disease.

The association said the United States and Australia already had such bans in place and the Government would be putting Ireland at risk if it failed to follow suit.

ICMSA president Pat O'Rourke said: "All of us know the tremendous effort that was made when we were threatened with foot-and-mouth before and everybody wants to make sure that we're never posed with that problem again."
