The ISEQ index of shares crept ahead 3.36 points to 6688.59 in today's trading.

There were mixed fortunes for building and contruction shares after Minister for Housing Noel Ahern announced a levelling off in housing construction figures.

CRH was worst hit, losing 43c to close at €22.22, while Kingspan shares were down 9c to €10.40.

McInerney Holdings was up 3c to €8.33 while Grafton was unchanged at €8.90.

The retirement plans of Waterford Wedgwood group CEO Redmond O'Donoghue had no effect on its shares, remaining stable at 6c.

News that Tullow Oil's next set of interim results will be produced under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) rules drew only a slight change, with shares going down 1c to €3.10.

After its strong showing yesterday, Paddy Power lost 20c to €15.50.
