Cork rail workers plan to strike from midnight
Thousands of rail passengers are reportedly facing possible disruption this weekend due to planned strike action by Iarnrod Eireann workers in Cork.
Reports this morning said SIPTU members in Cork and Mallow were planning to go on strike from midnight following the company's refusal to reinstate an employee sacked two years ago.
An Employment Appeals Tribunal has ordered the reinstatement, but Iarnrod Eireann wants to challenge this decision in the Circuit Court.
This morning's reports said commuter services and trains to Dublin would be affected by any strike action, while people travelling to GAA matches, the Irish Derby and the U2 concerts at Croke Park could be inconvenienced.
