Shareholders re-elect Eurotunnell chairman

Bosses of struggling Eurotunnel today declared unity in the company’s fight for survival after its chairman overwhelmingly won re-election to his post.

Shareholders showed their confidence in chairman Jacques Gounon by casting around 98% of votes in favour of re-electing him.

They also re-elected Jean-Louis Raymond, who had said he would stand against Mr Gounon for the chairmanship, as a director of the company.

The votes came after maverick investor Nicolas Miguet made a last-minute decision to back Mr Gounon after realising that the chairman had the overwhelming support of shareholders.

The company said the votes represented “a great day for Eurotunnel” and unity within the company. A spokesman said: “This AGM has passed off calmly and everybody has come out in agreement.

“This is unity breaking out at Eurotunnel.”
