Scallop fishermen meet to review report on sector

Scallop fishermen are meeting today to consider an independent review of the fishing sector announced last night.

An existing programme to remove trawlers from the white fish fleet is to be examined as part of the review to see if the scallop sector can also be included.

The current scheme has an €8m budget, but doesn't include the €5m proposal put forward by scallop fishermen.

Bridging the difference could determine future action involving a resumption of port blockades.
