Michael Walsh has been appointed chairman of ISEQ-listed food group Glanbia plc, succeeding the retired Tom Corcoran.

Michael Walsh has been appointed chairman of ISEQ-listed food group Glanbia plc, succeeding the retired Tom Corcoran.

Mr Walsh has been vice-chairman of the board since 1996. He has also been appointed chairman of Glanbia Co-operative Society and is a director of the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society and the Irish Dairy Board Co-operative.

He farms at Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny.

The board also elected Victor Quinlan as vice-chairman to replace Mr Walsh.

He has also been appointed vice-chairman of Glanbia Co-operative Society and is a director of a number of Irish companies, including Irish Sugar Limited and Malting Company of Ireland Limited.

Mr Liam Herlihy continues in his capacity as a vice-chairman of the board.

The board of Glanbia has also announced the appointment of three new non-executive directors, Paul Haran, Matthew Merrick and Michael Keane, and the retirement of Thomas Heffernan as a director.

Mr Haran retired last year as secretary general of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment at the end of his seven-year term of office.

He also serves on the Court of Directors of Bank of Ireland and on the boards of the Irish Management Institute, the Mater Hospital Private and the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business.

Mr Haran was also recently appointed by the Minister for Justice and Law Reform to chair the Working Group on Legal Costs.

Mr Keane and Mr Merrick are both farmers and directors of Glanbia Co-operative Society.
