Consumer club website Pigsback.com is to open shop in the UK on June 12. Pigsback is spending €6m on the launch.

The company has secured UK partnerships with Blockbuster, UGC cinemas, Ebay, CD WOW!, Figleaves, Last Minute and Virgin Wines, among others.

Initial focus will be on the greater London area, with a gradual expansion to other major urban areas with a field marketing strategy.

Referring to the upcoming UK launch, Rory Duggan the COO said: “Our Irish business will yield considerable cashflows over coming years. We have topped up these projected profits with an additional €2m in equity to fund a major launch in Britain. We expect to be profitable in the UK by year three.”

Pigsback.com was launched in Dublin in July 2000 by Michael Dwyer and claims more than 200,000 active members in Ireland. The company employs 50 people and has offices in Dublin and London.
