BT workers accept 3.5% pay deal

BT workers have overwhelmingly accepted a 3.5% pay offer, ending the threat of industrial action, it was announced today.

Members of the Communication Workers Union voted by 4-1 in favour of the deal, which will be backdated to April.

The union had previously rejected a 2.7% offer and warned of industrial action if an agreement had not been reached.

Deputy general secretary Jeannie Drake said it was one of the best deals achieved in industry this year.

“BT’s other pay offers throughout negotiations would have meant a pay cut in real terms, and that was unacceptable to us.

“The 2.7% offer wouldn’t have covered the increases in our members’ bills over the last year, never mind ensure that they were properly rewarded and seen to be valued for the hard work they’ve put in to make BT the success that it has been.”
