Aviation lobby group Grounded Ireland has described the ICTU position on the proposed privatisation of Aer Lingus as unrealistic and irresponsible.

"Realism must rule here, not ideology; there are going to be huge opportunities for Aer Lingus as a result of the Open Aviation Area, but it must have the funds to expand its fleet before it can do this," said spokesman, John Fitzpatrick.

Grounded was founded recently by two aviation industry observers, John Fitzpatrick and Jeremiah Teahan, with the objective of raising the profile of aviation and awareness of its potential for economic growth.
