Farmers seek ‘meat forum’ to address lamb-price reductions

Sheep farmers have called for the establishment of a "meat forum" to address what they claim are unacceptable reductions in the price of lamb.

The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association said such a forum would facilitate communication between producers and processors.

Spokesman Mervyn Sunderland said: "[Producers] would know what the market required, they would know market prices and they would know what type of animal to produce.

"They would work more with the processors, rather than against them, because there seems to be a them-and-us situation out there."
