BBC waiting on job losses strike vote
The BBC will hear today if its programmes face the threat of disruption because of a dispute over job losses.
Journalists and technical workers have been voting on whether to take industrial action in protest at the cuts.
Union leaders said they were confident of a vote in support of strikes, which could start later this month.
The National Union of Journalists, the broadcasting workers’ union Bectu, and Amicus will announce the result of the ballots.
Gerry Morrissey, assistant general secretary of Bectu, said he was confident his members had voted yes.
Mr Morrissey has attacked BBC director general Mark Thompson over the scale of the 4,000 job losses, which the corporation said will lead to savings of over £355m (€518m).
“We remain opposed to these cuts, which we believe will bring long term damage to the BBC,” said Mr Morrissey.
