Schering-Plough appoints new GM in Cork

Pharmaceutical group Schering-Plough has appointed a new general manager at their plant in Brinny in Co Cork.

The new boss is John Howell. The Evening Echo reports Mr Howell served as plant manager for Schering-Plough's animal health facility in Bray, Co Wicklow.

He takes over from Dr Colman Casey who recently resigned.

The Brinny plant makes an injected immune-boosting interferon that is part of a two-drug combination treatment for hepatitis C.

The US company employs some 1,400 staff in Ireland.
