Two of the world’s biggest drinks companies today squared up to rival Pernod Ricard in the battle for UK firm Allied Domecq.

Constellation Brands, whose products include Hardys wine and Corona beer, has teamed up with Southern Comfort group Brown-Forman to form a consortium aimed at gatecrashing the £7.4bn (€10.9bn) takeover agreed last week by Pernod.
