INOU seeks better re-training for redundant workers
The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed has called for more effective re-training of workers who lose their jobs.
In a report published today, the INOU said 23,000 people were made redundant last year, up from just over 13,000 four years ago.
It said the manufacturing sector suffered most as a result of the lay-offs.
Spokesperson June Tinsley said: "Proactive task forces that sometimes are being set up and being managed by FÁS need to be more effective in terms of involving different agencies in order for them to make an impact on the individual workers."
