Energia wins enterprise award

Belfast-based independent electricity supplier Energia has won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade.

The company - which is part of Viridian Group - employs over 60 people and achieved the award in recognition of its growth as an independent energy supplier in the Republic of Ireland.

John Mawhinney, Energia’s Northern Ireland Head of Sales & Marketing says the achievement is remarkable for a company that has only been in existence for five years.

“This award means a lot to us because we were the first Northern Ireland company to push the boundaries in the energy industry,” he says. `

Energia has offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Omagh and is a member of the Viridian Group PLC.

Viridian Group’s Irish energy interests include Northern Ireland Electricity, the Huntstown power station near Dublin and NIE Powerteam, a high voltage electrical contractor.
