Call to name and shame exploitative employers

The Diversity at Work Network – a partnership between the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland, the National Consultative Committee on Racism in Ireland and the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown - today said rogue employers exploiting non-national workers should be severely penalised and have their names publicised.

The Diversity at Work Network (DAWN) – a partnership between the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland (CCI), the National Consultative Committee on Racism in Ireland (NCCRI) and the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) – today said rogue employers exploiting non-national workers should be severely penalised and have their names publicised.

The comments were made at the launch of DAWN's good practice employers’ handbook entitled "Managing Diversity in the Workplace - Focusing on the Employment of Migrant Workers".

The handbook provides practical advice for employers who currently employ or are considering the employment of migrant workers, including those from within and outside the European Union.

Speaking this morning, CCI chief executive John Dunne said: “Exploitation of these employees is very worrying and can be neither tolerated nor condoned. The Government must ensure active and effective monitoring for dubious employment practices and rogue employment agencies.

"Companies who try to take advantage of foreign workers should be severely penalised and have their names published.”
